Summer Flies

Stay, Summer, Stay

No doubt, at some point the sun will appear

The days will grow longer, the evenings warm

And I’ll leave behind the dark nights of fear

That seemed unending and threatened such harm

Roll out, black storm clouds and show me the sun

Leave me no further soft flurries of snow

Threaten not cold, the new buds have begun

My heart lifts knowing new blooms will soon show

Bright petals in colors varied and sweet

The scent of sunshine and floral perfumes

Summer, thank goodness, you’re praised with each tweet

Of frolicking birdies singing their tunes

Stay with us, stay, do not hasten away

Summer so flies, I will cherish each day

Dedicated to Dad, who could grow anything. I'm still waiting for something to bloom here now that he's gone.
