Summer fades like a lover’s dream

Summer fades like a lover’s dream,

Not all at once, but slow and low,

A quiet loss beneath the gleam,

A truth we feel but never show.

It lingers in the evening air,

In softened gold on window glass,

A warmth that once was always there,

Now slipping as the moments pass.

We thought those days would always stay,

Held tight within our open hands,

But light was never meant to stay,

It leaves no mark, it makes no plans.

The laughter fades from garden walls,

From distant voices drifting thin,

And somewhere in those empty calls,

The dark begins its quiet spin.

A touch once warm is now a thought,

A trace of heat upon the skin,

A lesson slowly, softly taught,

Of how all endings must begin.

The sky still holds a ghost of fire,

A blush that will not fully die,

As if it knows our one desire,

Is just to keep what passes by.

But nothing answers when we plead,

No voice returns, no light will stay,

For time moves on with quiet speed,

And steals the best we try to save.

Still in the heart, it gently gleams,

A place untouched by time or scheme,

Where love still lives in fractured beams,

And summer breathes, a lover’s dream.
