A Distant Love

I went to Subway today

And my daydreams escape me

As I looked for you to come through the back

I’d be stepping into your past

And you into my present

You would laugh, try to contain yourself

And I would try to keep the same demeanor

As we would joke at one another

I’d say how ironic that you were making me a sandwich

As you would tease me about what I was ordering

Making faces at one another

A proper example of what our connection entailed

Mockery would be our love language

And through the times of silence

Of distance

A reminder would stick

That we had that moment

Whether a dream or not

Even after all the turmoil

We’d know

We’d at least looked at each other’s eyes

And shared a soulful smile

Because even our lips didn’t move

Our eyes sure did
