Strawberry Fields

Sentimental cues abound.

strawberry fields persist

with the weight of green

and the gift of sunlight

streaming in beams

your hand's small in mine

as we tuck away memories

for later examination

your smile is warm honey,

the stuff of fragrant dreams,

and I wish

youth didn't flee so fast

soon enough you'll be twenty

and getting married

while I give you away

to quite the unworthy fellow

who provokes smiles

from you in too frequent doses

my bluebird girl is leaving

ah, sweet sorrow

today is all we have

as you beam like starlight

and tomorrow dances

quite too near to endings

where I'll release your hand

and wave goodbye

while I think of aging

and how I'm fading fast

strawberry fields wither

by first touch of frost

and you'll be gone away

from my grasp

fact or fiction
