Strange Butterfly

I saw a strange butterfly

As I sat beside the creek

her wings were torn and shabby

and seemed rather weak

How does she even fly at all?

I wondered as I watched her

with wings so barely held together

I wasn’t even sure

They were missing patches of color

with tears here and there

She must’ve been caught in a storm

and survived with just a prayer

I looked a little closer

and was shocked to finally see

I had only seen a reflection

of the butterfly in me

The storms I’ve seen were many

and at times I felt like dying

but even with my tattered wings

I stood up and started flying 🦋
