Straitjacket

Limerence and situationships

The sky behind me is black

But up ahead it’s turning blue

When I saw you there was no turning back

And my heart’s still holding onto you

Like an invisible string

I just can’t seem to cut that cord

I see your face in everything

And your arms are all I want to run toward

Our hearts brush up against one another

Always in passing, too scared to settle

You shy away from the title of ‘lover’

But you’re lead-foot heavy on the gas pedal

I’ve been praying for rain since I met you

And you’re caught somewhere in between

One that’s got you and one that can’t forget you

Never knowing if we’ve acted our final scene

You already know how this season ends

But I’ll keep binging each episode

Seems these days I’m the only one who pretends

No spoilers please, I swear I’ll crack the code

No one’s gonna feel bad for me when I cry over you

You’ve always been just another ‘told you so’

Heartbreak looks good on me, but not the color blue

I think black, like grief, is the way to go

These arms are empty, they frantically reach

Experts say ‘You’ve got to sit with the pain’

Putting my heart in a straitjacket still wouldn’t teach

Me to not want to relive this all over again.
