The sky is darkened by the
clouds in my mind.
The air is sticky, the wind stings,
the salt in the breeze scrapes my cheeks.
It's hard to breathe.
Riptides drag me under despite
the deepest breathes.
The waves won't let me stand;
They chose to choke me instead.
Hands tare through the salt-water,
uncontrollable, they shake.
They tingle has numbness takes over and
It's hard to breathe.
The waves invade me as if my struggling means nothing.
Deep, "calming" breaths only brings more water in and
blackness grows on the edges of my vision but then,
I stand. Dripping wet, coughing and spiting the salt
from my mouth, sucking in air by the gasps.
Weakened, beaten, I stand.
Somewhere beneath this raging sea
is some golden piece of me.
And I hope that
GOLD
is all you see.
