the sky was fire
the land the food
cooked and roasted
the sweat kept the food alive
the floor kept as slow
the ground was lava
slipping down the hills
scorched earth and scorched humans
the world steamed and flamed
the sticky pavements all around
trying to hide in shadows
stealing the power of tree branches
running below any passing cloud
sweating on sweat
burning on skin
waiting for the summer to pass
waiting for the water to flow
waiting for the burn to heal
waiting for the earth to cool
no more walking on sticky pavements
time nearly to walk again
time nearly to run again
time nearly to dance again
time nearly to stroll again
no more time for sticky pavements
