captured in a photo, a canvas in a frame

covering a stain

some headless face without a name

the scene around is picture perfect

every cloud and tree in place

the artist hand

precisely directs

me in front, on Center stage

curiosity’s become my master

I peek beyond the frame and matte

I hear the sounds of gentle laughter

a world unlike mine, crisp, and flat

I stretch my hand out of the canvas

planning my great escape and then

I tiptoe slowly into the madness

I’m off to sights I’ve never seen

this world unlike the one I come from

jagged edges everywhere

my tongue between my cheek and gum

is that Van Gogh without an ear?

I stand in awe, like those around me

a starry night and sanity

the flowers bloom like birds in flight

beauty eclipsing vanity

and I, a simple pencil sketch

outlined with subtle shades of blue

though lovingly my canvas stretched

will never match idealistic hues

no one sees me in the shadows

I blend like stardust in the sky

a simple man in ragged clothes

the love for art is long implied

I step back in the world created

for one's much like the likes of I

until beheld, myself translated

in the artful thought of someone's eye

having been exposed, I often wander

around the rooms as moonlight creeps

the human mind I sit and ponder

at their wonders over me
