Stay Far, Come Close

That push and pull of life

I read somewhere

Can't remember what the exact quote was

(Do we ever?)

That to keep a relationship, friendship,

Strong, healthy, sane

You shouldn't speak to that person

Every day.

No problem, I told myself.

I don't really like speaking to anyone any day.

Hah.

But, of course, I took a moment to reflect,

And thought.

Hey, maybe that's why my truly good friends,

INCLUDING and ESPECIALLY my father

Have a healthy outlook towards each other.

Sure, call me sad that my dad's my best friend but hey, I'm lucky.

Days, weeks, months go by sometimes.

Quite.

And when we talk:

We laugh, scold each other, check in,

And even fight,

When it really matters.

The rest of my friends?

I don't know

I love them,

But nothing seems quite real anymore

Quite as STRONG.

Or quite what it seems to the naked eye.

Shrug.

Is this the same for you, too?
