Status Quo

It’s what I know

The weather today is bleak

Matches my mood perfectly,

The world has again returned

To its black and white state.

***

I find it comforts me

As it’s what I know,

There’s no unexpected

There’s no expectation.

***

It is as it is

As it’s all meant to be,

The heart once more

Closes, locks, darkens.

***

The world returns

To its status quo,

The borders shrink

Back into place.

***

I tried to step outside

The comfort of its walls,

But there’s no gain

Except unexpected pain.

***

I prefer my solitude

My small world,

Silly to rock the boat

Trying something new.

About the Creator

Colleen Millsteed

My first love is poetry — it’s like a desperate need to write, to free up space in my mind, to escape the constant noise in my head. Most of the time the poems write themselves — I’m just the conduit holding the metaphorical pen.
