Liminal Clingfilm

close,

so close,

close enough to almost touch

the space between us,

our breath

crackles,

violet electricity settles

prickling my skin,

tracing lightning between my freckles.

Close,

so close.

turning up the corners of my mouth,

lavender expectation

demanding attention

from the hairs at the nape of my neck.

Close,

so close.

The amber scent of you

lingers

in clingfilm repose

that echoes

in mournful sighs that escape

as I wake

to the sunlight

Close,

so close.

Your silhouette disappears

in dawn's quicksilver,

melting the thunder of you.

Close,

so close,

but still just a ghost.

The tingling

in my heart, fizzling out,

is simply my soul

asleep.
