Stairway to Nowhere
Never ending going forward but not higher

Stairway to Nowhere
Behind the wall
a whisper moves.
It hides a stairway
I was never meant to find.
I stand for a moment,
then climb,
because standing still
feels worse.
The steps complain softly,
each one older than memory.
Dust wakes,
floating like thought.
The air thickens around me,
slow and certain.
Something unseen
follows the sound of my breath.
I touch the rail,
it feels warm, alive.
Names cut deep,
letters lost to time.
The light fades quickly,
the dark folds closer.
It feels like falling
but slower, quieter.
There is no top,
no bottom waiting.
Only the same steps
turning inward forever.
I whisper my name,
and it returns wrong,
as if the dark
has learned my voice.
Maybe the climb
was never real at all.
Maybe I’ve been walking
inside my own shadow.
And in that nowhere dark
I meet myself again,
still climbing,
still lost, still calm.
