Sounds About Frost

soft taps on the window as twilight gives way

overtaken by groans of the furless, when the auto start fails

the scraping of plastic, against the frosted, jagged windshield

revealing the pink supple skin, surrounding virgin fingernails

the gasp of a breath when it touches the flesh

the guttural growl, as we wade through this mess

the death-rattle sigh, of not knowing how to dress

the heart dropping reality that nothing will aid our distress

a parade of red taillights, mirroring their reflection

on the glasslike stretch of road, looking in either direction

setting the tone and the mood for the year

oh my gosh, I can't wait until spring makes this all disappear
