Someone Else’s Leftover Man
Iwant one of my own

Someone Else’s Leftover Man
I fell in love with a broken man,
Whose heart belonged elsewhere,
I thought that I could mend his wounds,
And show him someone cared.
He spoke about another love,
A woman from his past,
And though he said their love was dead,
Her memories seemed to last.
I gave him all the love I had,
And held him through the night,
I thought that if I loved enough,
One day things would be right.
But every time he looked at me,
I wondered what he’d see,
Was I the woman in his arms,
Or someone I could never be?
He never spoke the words I craved,
The ones that lovers share,
And even when he held me close,
I felt she was still there.
I wore the dresses that he liked,
I tried to make him smile,
But loving someone else’s past,
Was hurting all the while.
I was the one who dried his tears,
When memories made him cry,
Yet every time I needed him,
He never questioned why.
I knew I was his second choice,
A place where he could hide,
A woman filling empty space,
With loneliness inside.
And now I have to walk away,
Although it breaks my heart,
For loving someone’s leftover man,
Was tearing me apart.
I hope one day he finds his peace,
And learns to love again,
But I deserve a heart that’s mine,
Not one still filled with pain.
