Three poems I have written recently
Moments After
As the squall fades and voices lower,
gentle light spills onto a barren field.
As the branches are released by the wind
And relax from contorted manipulation.
As all the noise fades to silence,
And the peace becomes overwhelming,
A single choking sob is heard
As resilience collapses into her own bare hands.
Grandma
A ginormous bed, bigger than the whole room,
yet just small enough to rattle my resolve,
its shape reminding me of a cold headstone.
And there near the top, decapitated by those macabre linens,
lies my grandmother's head, like a marble in a snowbank.
A lighter Underside
At a wedding for a highschool friend I hadn’t seen in years.
Those that stayed in touch and those who had not.
Were suddenly faced one in front of the other.
And as we looked into eachothers eyes
we cried.
Because to find those friends so many years later
in high spirits and full of hope for their future
was as dear to our hearts as losing one another in the dark,
navigating eerie and foggy wilderness;
Only to find each other again,
Safe, and in good health.
