fear drips from my brow

saturating me in a transparent solvent

holding me down

in a deluge of never ending spatter

hope fleas like flies

in the path of my swatter

something must die

to satisfy what is the matter

attacked from all sides

I fear most what’s behind me

a shield must rise

to prevent my defeat

a supplemental layer of defense

to protect me from absorbing

the coinage I spent

just before I was drenched

glancing in the mirror at my bleeding reflection

all is but lost and scattered from here

the poorly educated guess of today’s precipitation

has soiled my dress and discombobulated my hair
