Smooth as A

A Poem

By Brynne NelsonPublished 9 months ago 1 min read

I rub my cheek gently against yours;

Your skin is liquid silk.

Is there such a thing?

No fuzz but the tiny wisps left from inside the womb

To roughen you to the touch.

No need for fancy lotions

Or aging creams.

Not yet.

In time, your cheek will grow tougher;

Wind will chap,

Sand will scrape,

Band-aids will be applied from time to time.

You’ll experience acne

And dermatitis

And eczema.

But for now,

Snuggled in my arms,

My face so close to yours,

You’re as soft as you are sweet.

My baby’s face

Is perfect.
