a poem

can’t they see?

that my smile is not a smile

can they see

that i am not she

an imposter has taken me

i am a hostage

a post war prisoner

i’ve not gotten out

not who i was

can’t they see?

do they even want to know?

that i am a shell

that i am in hell

the once i fell

i would never again be well

that no one can see

that i am not me

that what i’ll be

is just what you see

a smile that’s not real

a heart that does not feel

a me that just isn’t

a soul that’s imprisoned
