Slidin'

With apologies to Paul Simon

Replica of Da Vinci's ball bearing device from the traveling exhibit.

Slip slidin' away

Slip slidin' away

A lower coefficient of friction

The more you're slip slidin' away

*****

I know some science

It's strange of course

It's all about dividing friction with some normal force

It's not that bad

It just means this:

The higher number means that things are

Sliding over rougher surfaces

*****

Slip slidin' away

Slip slidin' away

You know the greater the lubrication

The more you're slip slidin' away

*****

Weird idea, I know

To use more ice

You put more into your drink to help it go down nice

The same with ice skates

It makes you smooth

That film of water gets you gliding

Till you're doppler smiling wide and that's the truth

*****

Slip slidin' away

Slip slidin' away

The greater the angle of inclination

The more you're slip slidin' away

*****

Need to get away?

Go climb a cliff

Keeps muscles limber and makes sure they don't get so stiff

But keep a good grip

And don't complain

Because air is almost frictionless

And what goes up will come back down again

*****

You're slip slidin'

Slip slidin' away

Ball bearings get you mechanized

And then you're slip slidin' away

*****

Da Vinci knew

He had a plan

He sketched a helicopter with ball bearings and a big ol' fan

Those balls they rotate

They give you lift

Before you know it, off you're flying

Technology is a priceless gift

*****

Slip slidin' away

Slip slidin' away

Increase your lubrication

And then you're slip slidin' away

Slip slidin' away

Slip slidin' away

Increase your inclination

And whee you're slip slidin' away

*****
