SITTIN IN MY BLUE ROOM
1967
This is a 1967 poem from my archives. The world in the 60s was a different place. Girls were 2nd class citizens. Boys were perfect in every way. I am sharing these poems to focus on staying in 2026. I believe in equality for all. Let’s learn to love not to hate. Girls need college and careers not top to just rattle pots and pans.
The first stanza I wrote was about when I felt dirty after certain events happened. The boy moved on with no remorse, no feelings, only pride about seducing a girl to brag to his home boys. Women are smart, calculating, and some of us are kind. I was not dirty at all. It was the religious fanatics who ridiculed the girls to put them in their place.
This poem was written from a teenage girl’s brain at 16. Do you want to go back to living with religious fanatics, forcing your daughters to be 2nd class citizens?
Sitting in my blue room
With sounds coming in
Wondering where or whom
Will be in hopeless sin
Too late do you realize
The need for faith today
The faith that was taken in disguise
So quickly, it flew away
Wish you knew how much I care
Wish you were here instead of there
I see you stand in the light of day
Shadows form into the night to slip away
So, near we are but so far apart
I give you my love and my heart
You stand there and look on at me
I see you stand in what could be
What could be wonderful you know
Only if you knew the light would too
Shadows would fly away and out of sight
Ony if you knew we could see the light
If you knew how much I care
What wonderful love we could share
