Siren Song Serenade

For Those Who Mistake Familiarity for Love

By Laura RoodenburgPublished 4 months ago 1 min read
From my current WIP. A cautionary tale, this song reveals much about the character.

VERSE 1

Her lips taste like tears

And pain you’ll never forget

Always bringing back the years

Of wasted words and regret

Although her mind changes on a dime

She swore it’d be different this time

CHORUS

The definition of insanity

A fool’s errand, a calamity

A skewed version of reality

A mirage, a masquerade

It’s got me questioning humanity

It’s not the way love’s supposed to be

Headed straight for catastrophe

The moment she started to play

That siren song serenade

VERSE 2

Her smile spreads like lies

Whispered so sweetly at night

Deceit is easy on the eyes

When there’s an absence of light

Clearly a present danger

She might as well be a stranger

BRIDGE

The waters wave warnings, “Heed the sound.”

From voices of those who loved and drowned

TAG

I’m begging you, please, walk away

That siren song serenade
