Singing My Heart Out To You

I stood beneath the evening sky,
With all the words I couldn’t say,
So I began to sing them out,
And let my heart find its own way.

I sang about the love we knew,
The nights I spent so close to you,
I sang about the times we cried,
And all the feelings kept inside.

My voice was shaking at the start,
Because each word came from my heart,
But once the music filled the air,
I felt your memory standing there.

I sang the songs we used to know,
The ones we danced to long ago,
And every note became a thread,
That tied me to the words you’d said.

I didn’t know if you could hear,
But I kept singing through my tears,
For sometimes music finds a way,
To say the things we cannot say.

So I sang until the night was gone,
And carried every feeling on,
I gave the stars the words for you,
And hoped somehow they reached you too.

Perhaps you’ll never hear my song,
Perhaps you’ll never know how long,
I’ve kept these feelings locked away,
But tonight I let them have their say.

And if my voice should ever fade,
The love I sang will still remain,
For every song I gave to you,
Was my heart singing something true.
