Shipwrecked

A Poem

By Rachel LightfootPublished 9 years ago • 1 min read

Sunken eyes and crooked teeth,

you will never know what you mean to me,

for you took a hand and stirred my soul,

without us ever having touched.

A tidal change,

set in motion by a complete stranger.

And in that whirlpool that you created,

I caught a glimmer, a glisten

beneath the water

of an old treasure, buried deep.

I took a spade and began to wade

through the swirling waters of my soul.

I bled the sea, dug up long lost and forgotten

Parts of me.

With my spade in hand,

I found underneath that salt and in that sand,

the very essence of me:

Castaway.
