Silver hair she presses back
With fingers soft, refined,
Kind blue eyes alight with memory,
Do muse to reminisce
****
Ages remembered flicker past
Blurred shadows of fading desire
A montage of colors in dusky hue
On a canvas left unpainted
****
Cursed for femininity in a time of men
Protected by forbidden loves,
She smiles, knowing the strength
Of their promises not forgotten
****
Upon each gentle, subtle word
That abandoned conformity
She was womanhood incarnate
A monument to forbidden love
****
She…the beacon for balance lost,
Once conceived of chivalry
When others, disquieted by the cruelty of life…
Cursed their gender demise
****
She silenced worriers in times of need
With the very aspect of woman
They claimed to despise
Giving her all to those who gave none
****
The heat of coffee, warms tired lips,
As her gaze drifts off the window.
She feels a breath escape her soul…
That never shall return.
****
Gently replacing the dainty cup
She straightens the hem of her dress,
And smiles alone in her room of lies
Though the world might tumble around her
****
For she has lived, passionately
To her gender decision… loyal
To the trappings which are
Heavy with the title of Lady
****
And should the liberated world
Dissolve tomorrow
She will know that truth to her soul
Has lent her rest, without respite.
