She Sold Her Body to feed her kids

A life of dismay to get by each day

She Sold Her Body to feed her kids

She sold her body to feed her kids,

A choice she made, a life she hid.

For every meal, for every bite,

She gave herself days and nights.

Now older, weary, her story out, and told,

Her kids look on with hearts grown cold.

They disown her name, her sacrifice,

Forgetting how mother paid the price.

They won’t talk or go to see her at all

Shunned by the ones she saved when small.

The alternative would have adoption

Selling her self was the only option

They see her scars, they feel nothing,

Blind to the years she cried in pain.

Her hands that toiled, her tears that fell,

Are lost to a past they won’t retell.

She wonders still, though cast aside,

If love was worth the shame and pride.

For in their eyes, she sees the cost

A mother’s love, but a family lost.

She sold her body, she sold her pride

For her fatherless children, a tough ride

She gave them a house, warmth, and food

In return perused by dirty vile men.
