She's In The Way

I'm Making Plans

By Kelli Sheckler-AmsdenPublished about a year ago Updated about a year ago 1 min read

There's a hole in the yard

where the swings used to be

Like my heart, it shows scars

from a life that has teeth

On the subway downtown

I smile at people I meet

Inside I wear a frown

as they step on my feet

Everyone I could call

they don't remember my name

Don't recall me at all

though they say, I'm the same

Guess that I've been replaced

by the next one in line

I feel like a waste of space

like I've wasted my time

I've been so many people

and I'm bound to create more

Like a thread needs a needle

who I am is a blur

A bundle of letters, tucked away in a drawer

a series of moments, I've never seen before

Some days I wonder, what the hell it's all for

but people pleasers never choose when to open those doors

I failed at love

and that was my crime

When push came to shove

it was my alibi

I melt like a candle

into everyone else

I'm more than you can handle

I can barely handle myself

I should be kept locked away

until you've uncovered a plan

That helps mold the me

that you can hold in your hands
