she’s headed for the skies

She lives in a darkness that tries to choke her sometimes.

It grabs her by the neck and it’s her mind it confines.

She wants to hold back the tears but she struggles to let go.

It’s all she was taught. It’s that that she knows.

I watched her sit there as the light seeped through her veins.

She stopped herself from looking back to see what remains.

I saw her stand so tall and watched her wings spread to fly.

You’ll have to miss her now. She’s headed for the skies.
