She Holds My Heart

And I hold hers

She holds my heart and safeguards it,

Wrapping me around her every need,

From her first hello at the dawning sun,

To her quiet request for her next feed.

**

Her cuddles warm my day,

Her glazes swell in my chest,

Those big yellow eyes overflow with love,

Even when she’s in protest.

**

Her cuteness is over the top,

Especially when performing her happy dance,

A greeting she gives me when I return,

As her little legs skip and prance.

**

Biscuits are her specialty,

She kneads them into absolute perfection,

They‘ve got to be just supremely right,

And pass her rigid inspection.

**

I hold her tiny heart within my hands,

I’m honoured and truly blessed,

My baby girl, my adorable cat,

Whose love and companionship is the best.

About the Creator

Colleen Millsteed

My first love is poetry — it’s like a desperate need to write, to free up space in my mind, to escape the constant noise in my head. Most of the time the poems write themselves — I’m just the conduit holding the metaphorical pen.

My brothers & I had a cat that looked just like that. We called him Pancake. Then my wife's first cat (she had said we could have dogs but never cats--until she met her), was the same. Reuther, after Rosemary Radford Reuther, a favorite theologian for both of us. Such treasures & blessings.

  • Hahahahahahahahha her biscuits! That stanza made me laugh so much! Grizabella is soooo adorable!

  • I wanna cuddle with your kitty🐱
