She Assists Mother Nature In Their Fight Against Their Demons

Along with her forever protector

She wanders the harsh landscape taking inspiration in every direction,

As she feels the wind caressing the edges of her feathers,

Off in the distance she hears the roaring of a cannon,

As the war on her demons test the very edge that her sanity tethers.

***

Canon fire sounds very much like thunder,

Similar in that it is the Universe’s war on human destruction,

As she fights alongside Mother Nature to defeat their demons,

Endeavouring to minimalise their torture, the smallest reduction.

***

She leaves the war to its own recourse,

As she wanders through the valley with her wolf by her side,

Threading her hand through his white fur,

Tethered to each other until one’s memory has died.

***

Strength is witnessed as the birds tweet her name,

In awe of the beauty she is blissfully unaware she adorns,

Feeling her humbleness in every breath,

In spite of the very destructiveness of her demons scorn.

***

The bees flitter along in her wake,

Dressing her in the perfume of their favourite pollen,

She skips along on the trail of its scent,

As her demons shake their horns, far too solemn.

***

The clouds descend, soft and golden,

Until she is wearing them proudly as her favourite hat,

Rainbows decorating its brim,

Shading the wings on her shoulder of her vampire bat.

***

The spotlight of the moon blazes in her glory,

Seeding moonbeams into her scattered footprints,

Stars highlight the way forward,

As her wild cat, shadow bear and lynx compete in her destiny sprints.

***

Her skin takes on the forest hue,

As she passes beneath its luscious boughs,

The world of nature bows to her pending arrival,

Delivering its oath to be her forever protector, serious of the promised vows.

About the Creator

Colleen Millsteed

My first love is poetry — it’s like a desperate need to write, to free up space in my mind, to escape the constant noise in my head. Most of the time the poems write themselves — I’m just the conduit holding the metaphorical pen.
