I could name all the freckles on your skin

I could trace them with my kiss and make constellations

But the memory of your body

Memory alone is no consolation

Where your shoulder joined your neck

The scent and taste of salt and earth

The weight of you on top of me

And the wait of what it’s worth

Where we were when the sun came up

Curtains back, pillow talk, bed unmade

Swollen lips, finger tips trace your face

eyes warm soft sun-bleached suede

if I’m honest that was the best time

the only one to reach the sky

wrapped you up, filled my cup

we were always meant to say goodbye
