Secrets of the Cupid’s Dream

for lovers who understand silence

Secrets of the Cupid’s Dream

He never flew, not once, he walked,

through dusk-lit rooms where no one talked,

with arrowheads dipped not in gold,

but in the truths no heart is told.

No harp, no wings, no rosy lies,

just careful hands and clever eyes,

he marked the ones who bled unseen,

the ones who loved behind a screen.

He watched her laugh, her mouth all flame,

a fire that never took a name.

She wore her want like satin skin,

he carved her longing deep within.

He saw the man who didn’t speak,

whose silence brushed against her cheek,

whose fingers twitched then settled back,

who held his storm behind a crack.

They never touched, they never tried,

they loved like oceans side by side.

He tied their fates without a sound

no thunderbolt, no trumpet sound.

For that’s the secret lovers keep:

not every flame is meant to leap,

not every kiss becomes a claim,

not every burn will take a name.

The cupid smiled, then walked away,

his dream intact, a slow decay.

He dreams in hush, in hush they stay,

two souls who almost looked,

but turned away.
