tension,

morphed intensity

building before the fight

inside grows

as hints of war ensue

we hide away

in foxholes

under the skin

as blasts ignite

wearing masks

facades

as we deny the bruise

whispers rise

volcanoes wound

volumes are raised

torn solitude

our acolytes

form goosebumps armed

big, bold and bright

silent alarms

tiny hairs

erect

bravely they stand

awaite commands

for what happens next

in veined highways

undisclosed transport

concealed byways

from head to toe

secret messages

rally support

stress wrestlers

whom we consort

deliver fuel

for each emotion

a common tool

and shear devotion

hidden beneath

fleshy trench coats

needed reprieve

when needed the most
