SEARCHING
Yet never finding enough to be happy

SEARCHING
I’ve been through life, through ups, through downs,
I’ve searched in squares, I’ve searched in rounds,
I’ve never found that single thing that’s missing,
Even when I sit there reminiscing,
Something somewhere just isn’t there,
Something from my heart that says I cared.
Sometimes I think, but you already knew,
You knew exactly what I felt for you,
Then sometimes I think, no, you missed it all,
You hadn’t a clue when you watched me fall,
I searched and searched for somebody like you,
Never knowing what you’d put me through.
Now I sit here and reminisce,
About that first meeting and our first kiss,
All those promises me and you made,
All those memories that never fade,
I thought I’d found what I’d searched for so long,
I never thought that I could be so wrong.
The hearts turned to ice,
The flowers bowed their head,
When our true love story was told to be dead,
There wasn’t a funeral or even goodbye,
Just me left there wondering why,
And you walking away without even a cry.
You moved on like a bee from a flower,
Collecting your honey hour after hour,
I lost the bet where I bet all my money,
Funny now, but it wasn’t that funny,
I bet you’d always be there by my side,
That between us there’d never be a gap so wide.
But the gap got bigger as time went by,
And I was the one left asking why,
You were over there and I was over here,
Once so close, now nowhere near,
I could still see you inside my head,
Even though our love had been pronounced dead.
So now today I reminisce,
The first meeting, the first kiss,
The first argument, the first punch I took from you,
And every other thing you put me through,
I remember the good, I remember the bad,
And strangely I remember the love that we had.
Would I go back again? Yes, in a flash,
I’d go right back and give it another bash,
Not because I’ve forgotten what you did to me,
Or because I’ve forgotten how bad it could be,
But because amongst all the hurt and the pain,
I’d still want to love you all over again.
Maybe I’m stupid, maybe that’s me,
Maybe some hearts are never set free,
I’ve searched in squares and I’ve searched in rounds,
I’ve searched through the ups and the downs,
Looking for something I thought I’d once knew,
Then realised what I was searching for was you.
That’s the difference between me and you,
After everything that you put me through,
The hearts may be frozen, the flowers may die,
And sometimes I still sit and wonder why,
I searched for an answer but already knew,
I still love the man who tore my heart in two.
