Scavengers

And Renewing

By Kelli Sheckler-AmsdenPublished 3 years ago • 1 min read

Seen as scavenger, outcast, or man-eater

Looking for love’s lost, its weak and its frail

Devouring whatever life, might be leftover,

A seers painstaking attention to detail

The wounded, abandoned and unwanted discards

Scoured through the faces of the victims behind

Broken and unable to survive the charges

Longing for souls who are gentle and kind

She befriends the vulture, willing to scavenge

Picking the last, till the bone is made clean

Mending the ones that the world has ravaged

Making them better than they'd ever been

They cling to her side, and wait for her bidding

She is the master and her words they obey

She conquers the enemy with her will and outwitting

Building an army with those left in the fray

Beautiful are the ones, who arise from the ashes

The tales they tell, spur the fires within

Allowing the broken a shot at second chances

Releasing the past and beginning again
