The shadow of a man

Falling in love had never been the plan -

So finely stitched and perfect was his face,

She never knew if he was mask or man,

Or that through him she too would be erased.

The years passed by and soon they built a life,

Taking from her all that he couldn't feel

Until naught remained but an empty wife

And his secret truth, doomed to be revealed.

In all their time she'd not once held his heart -

Something to do, just an expected role.

He built his true self ripping her apart,

Left her to distrust every single soul -

Like him, they all may gladly watch her drown,

Just dead-eyed scarecrow faces staring down.
