A Poem

If I spread my legs
and let you in,
will you tell me
what we did is a sin?

Will you remind me
that I'm not alone
and that I have someone
waiting at home?

Or will you take me
and make me feel
like I'm the queen of your world?

Like I'm your girl
and belong with no one else?

And can I trust you
with my heart?

Is this the start
or just another ending?

I know I'm in need
of so much mending,
and I feel like you could be my savior.

But I want a partner,
not a player.

I want someone who lifts me up
and holds me when I'm down.

I want someone who knows
when to be a clown
and when to be serious
and mysterious.

I want someone
who doesn't leave me feeling alone
when they're sitting right next to me
at home.

And I feel like
you could be that one.

But so much else
has to come undone.

And you stay in the distance,
always hiding away.

I don't know
if you'll be with me someday
or if this is all just a dream
that I'm living in,

and I'll wake up
and you won't have existed at all.

If you're not real,
then this life I live
is just a nightmare,

and I don't feel like
I'll ever break free.
