Part 1

Our first date

Was our 260th

Time getting coffee together

A year of waiting, watching, and

Wondering

Would this be the day

That you would ask me out?

And I think it was Bill

Who asked what you were waiting for?

I was told you felt bashful

You were concerned

Maybe I wouldn’t feel the same way

Someone file for harassment

Some shrug it off

The stakes felt high

The situation untenable

Possibly unwinnable

You opened the door

I smiled

We laughed

In a whisper

Nearly covered

By a cough

Was it an I love you

Say it again Sam

“I love you”

It was the start of imagining forever

Part 2

No one really warns

There’s no alarm bells

A pin doesn’t drop

It’s just one day

After another

Of his bovine like chewing

He let the door nearly slam on you

No more smiles just the sound

Of traffic droning over cutlery

An implied comment falls

Almost inaudible

Like a dare to be heard

Head on with full force

Say it again Sam

“You were snoring again”

A pillow flies

Part 3

Torrential downpour

Fills the grass

The sound of emptiness meets water

And my soul filling with tears

No one’s perfect

Sometimes they aren’t even great

But the time together

Well it was better than alone

There’s no more smiles

Dumb commentary is gone

Gentle ribbing abated

Standing over the stone

I cannot help but say

Say it again Sam
