Safe Love

A slow, golden love found within her

I want a slow love.

A quiet love.

No yelling or shaming.

No slamming doors or hitting walls.

I want an easy love.

One where romance is found in the yellow morning sun

Graced by the smell of brewing coffee and her arms wrapped around my chest.

The same morning sun kissing her cheeks and highlighting the gold in her eyes.

I want a celebratory love, a safe love.

A love where I feel wanted and a love where I’m touched.

Gently, but with passion.

I want a cinematic kind of love.

Not the kind you see in a hallmark movie, but the kind that sees you

Breaks you open

Helps you grow - but never leaves.

I want this love.

A love that gives me a home on the stormiest of nights.

A love that brings peace when the rest of the world has gone awry.

A love that shelters my heart from the evil of the world.

I want a love that grounds me

But also lets me dream.

I want a love that grows old with me

And doesn’t shy at the sight of my aging skin and dimming eyes.

A love that brings my senses alive even after a lifetime of overstimulation.

Most of all

I want a love that reaches for me in the middle of the night

When it, too, needs a soft place to land or arms to hold it close.

I’ll pull my love against my chest and whisper,

“You’re safe”

For the rest of my life.

I want a safe love.

Even if I have to give it to myself.
