Sad Songs, Lonely People

They always fit together like cake and custard

Sad Songs, Lonely People

Sad songs find the lonely people,
They slip beneath a bedroom door,
They carry words we never spoke,
And leave us wanting something more.

The midnight radio keeps playing,
While shadows gather on the wall,
Each melody becomes a memory,
Of someone we once used to call.

Some songs belong to broken lovers,
Some belong to those left behind,
Some find the places deep within us,
Where yesterday is still alive.

A lonely heart can hear a whisper,
Inside a song the whole world knows,
And suddenly the room feels crowded,
With every face the past once showed.

The rain taps softly at the window,
As if it knows the words by heart,
And every tear becomes a rhythm,
For every soul that’s torn apart.

Sad songs don’t ask us for permission,
They simply enter, then they stay,
They find the corners we have hidden,
And pull forgotten dreams our way.

Perhaps that’s why the lonely love them,
Because they never judge our pain,
They sit beside us in the darkness,
And understand the tears like rain.

Then morning comes with pale forgiveness,
The music fades, the night moves on,
But somewhere deep inside the silence,
The final echo still lives on.

So play those songs for lonely people,
Let every broken heartbeat sing,
For sometimes music holds together,
The pieces life has torn from everything.
