Your sacred space is where you can find yourself over and over again.

Joseph Campbell

After our soothing, early morning walk along the foreshore at Wellington Point.

We maintained our ritual and paused for a coffee.

Unexpectedly, our discussion took a turn.

We found our way to exploring the notions of grace and the sacred.

Of yearning for sacred spaces.

He replied,

“Bookshops,

Coffee shops,

Bookshops with embedded coffee shops!”

Waiting; I knew there was the final to surprise.

“Theatres with Wurlitzer organs rising from below the front-of-stage for pre-movie performances."

‘And you?’ he asked,

I smiled, tears glistening.

I reached for my beloved husband’s hands.

“Bookshops,

Coffee shops,

Bookshops with embedded coffee shops!

And,

Theatres with Wurlitzer organs rising from below the front-of-stage for pre-movie performances."

Devotion; we had been married for 27 years. Although in the intervening period we had lived in Adelaide for five of those.

We treasured our shared experience of grace and the sacred during our monthly visits to Adelaide’s heritage-listed Capri Theatre.

Where the Wurlitzer organs rose from below the front-of-stage for pre-movie performances.
