I was made to be a mother
The way marrow knows bone
The way maiden turns to mother
And a mother becomes crone
~~~
your sleepy face
your chest
Rising
Falling
you clutch for my face
The whole world
Just stalling
~~~
the fiery strength
I have for you
A witches magic
could never undo
~~~
the ferocity of which
I say I love you
As promising as
The alluring Moon
~~~
I hold you tight
tears fall from my face
A mothers baptism
My warm embrace
~~~
my flesh breaks down
All sinew and meat
I sacrifice for you
Take from me and eat
~~~
I was made to be a mother
something I ran from my whole life
but then I met the man
I became a wife
~~~
My belly swelled
Then a rush of liquid
Your heaviness dropped
Inside something shifted
~~~
Into the world you came
Screaming and red
Placing you onto me
And from me you fed
~~~
Tear me open
If it keeps you from harm
I am the living bread
Protect you like a charm
~~~
The magic that morning
A witch could never do
It’d be a pale imitation
Of when I gave life to you
~~~
It only looked like birth
performed across nations
But between God and I
It was creation
