Roots of My Own Heart
Breakable, lovable and confused

Roots of My Own Heart
I feel the roots break,
Inside my chest,
Reaching for moments,
Never at rest.
They twist through memories,
Raw in their hold,
Searching for stories,
Old but not cold.
Sometimes they tighten,
Pulling me back,
To places hidden,
Darkened and black.
Sometimes they loosen,
Giving me space,
Letting me breathe out,
Finding my place.
I walk through my thoughts now,
Slow as I can,
Piecing the heartbeats,
Back into plan.
There is a stillness,
Growing each day,
Teaching my spirit,
Newer ways.
These roots keep rising,
Shaping my way,
Holding my footsteps,
Night into day.
I carry them softly,
Right from the start,
Learning the language,
Of my own heart.
