Roots Don’t Lie

They tell it as it is

Roots Don’t Lie

The branches reached in every way,

No neat direction, no straight line,

Years had shaped what storms began,

Leaving their marks through space and time.

Standing there with nothing hidden,

No leaves left over to impress,

Only the frame of all endured,

And all the weight of loneliness.

People think strength must appear,

Green and bright for all to see,

Yet some of the strongest things alive,

Stand bare with quiet dignity.

The sky looked open through the gaps,

Cold and wide above the ground,

Still those roots stayed deep below,

Holding firm without a sound.

Time removes what does not stay,

False colours fall and drift apart,

What remains becomes the truth,

Written plain across the heart.

You stop believing every promise,

Stop waiting on words alone,

Actions grow louder than speeches,

And reveal what has been shown.

Old seasons leave familiar scars,

Some still ache in certain rain,

Yet each one carved another layer,

Not wasted sorrow, earned through pain.

Nothing asks that tree for beauty,

Nothing tells it how to grow,

Still it rises year by year,

With more wisdom than it shows.

Maybe that is what age becomes,

Less performance, less disguise,

Knowing who belongs beside you,

And who disappeared with skies.

So if the world calls you weathered,

Or says your best has passed you by,

Remember roots speak without noise,

And rooted things do not lie.
