ROMANCE

Romance is not expensive
It doesn’t need a ring
Sometimes a chair beside you
Can mean almost everything

A table set for two hearts
Beneath a silver moon
Two glasses left there waiting
For someone coming soon

The roses climb the doorway
The candles softly glow
And somewhere in the garden
The evening starts to slow

Romance can be a question
Asked softly in the night
Are you warm enough beside me
Is everything all right

It can be making breakfast
Or bringing someone tea
Remembering little details
That nobody else can see

It’s laughing over nothing
Until your stomach aches
Forgiving little blunders
And all the small mistakes

It’s holding hands in silence
When there is nought to say
And still wanting that same hand
At ending of the day

Romance is growing older
But seeing younger eyes
Remembering your beginning
When years have hurried by

It isn’t perfect roses
They wither like we do
It’s choosing through the seasons
To keep on choosing you

So leave the moon above us
And let the candles burn
Let roses lose their petals
For seasons always turn

I’ll take the chair beside you
When youth has disappeared
And tell the same old stories
We’ve laughed at through the years

For romance isn’t one night
Or words that lovers say
It’s finding one another
And choosing still to stay
