The Place To Go When Writer’s Block Hits

‘Welcome, my wordsmithing friend, to the River of Song!

These silty shores are where you’ll soon find that you belong.

Come, take my hand.

Leave your worries behind.

Trace the ripples below

As the river meanders along.’

.

Your fingers trace the rivulets

As your mind is filled with words.

Oh, how they float all about.

Indiscernible tunes can faintly be heard.

You strain to listen

As you realize the music is below the serene surface beside us.

.

You look at me, doubtfully,

As you question your sanity,

“That’s absurd!”

‘It isn’t, you know.

Feel the notes vibrating below the surface.

Forget your inhibitions.’

.

‘This is a magical place.

You’ve no need for reason, fear, or any boat.

Wade in with me now.’

As you slowly submerge

The words become clearer.

.

Soft, sweet strains can be felt.

The notes flow through your body

Like the river’s soft caress upon the shore.

‘It’s time to dive in now.

Leave your doubts behind.

Take the plunge.’

.

You take a deep breath and dive down below.

Melodies rise in chorus all around you.

So familiar yet brand new.

Tiny bubbles pop near your ear

with each burst you hear a strum,

Drum, guitar string pluck, or piano key being struck.

.

An intoxicating symphony of the senses.

Lyrics begin to form in your mind.

You find yourself humming

And dancing in time.

Your creativity is revitalized.

Imagination swimming with plenty of new rhyme.

.

Glancing at the river bottom, you notice shifting sands.

Strings of words formed by teeny bubbles beneath your feet.

Now, they rise and burst to join the beat.

The poetic verse flows forth within your mind

Like vibrant colors forged from your internal palette.

Each pen stroke is like that of a brush, shimmering words left in its wake.

.

You itch for a pen,

Fervently hoping you’ll get to ink it all in time.

Oh, may this wondrous world never leave your mind!

You sway with the beat,

Words filling your brain.

You’re feeling renewed, ready to return to your task.

.

‘I’ll take you back now.

However, I have one small favor to ask.

When others you know,

Who bring words to life,

Are feeling doubtful or stuck,

Please bring them to the River of Song.’

.

‘Where they, too, may find inspiration

And know this is the company in which they belong.

We must seek to inspire one another

And future writers who will come.

Let’s not have them give up before their journey has truly begun.’

.

‘Know that you may return here

At any time that you please.

When you’re struggling to find words,

Close your eyes, and listen for the music in the breeze.

Your heart will guide you back here,

When you’ve found that your pen is in a freeze.’

. . .
