River of Grass

I lie with the grass

Cheek pressed to damp earth

Silken blades curl between fervent fingers

As I frolic within its gentle caress

It takes me down its sloping curves

And I heave with grunted effort

When it deposits me in a heap

Sorrow consumes me as ecstasy fades

And the heavens weep with me as we mourn

For this shall be farewell, at least for now

Rushing rapids carry my breaking heart

Through the solemn river of grass

And away from my love
