A Plea

Wicked, dark and riotous heart,

learn to love what loves you back.

Learn to fall for what will catch you.

Jump — don’t fall — and don’t look back.

Nothing back there but what breaks you,

nothing back there but what hurts you.

Poor, dark, broken, dirty heart,

you don’t know how to clean up.

I won’t judge you anymore.

Won’t condemn you for before.

I will try to understand —

you were lost and hurting then.

Don’t fall,

God holds you in His hands.

Here, we missed a spot.

Here, let’s try some shine.

Here, it’s not so hard.

Here, I’ll guide you right.

See? It’s nice in here.

See? It’s beautiful.

See? You’re loved for real.

See? No, don’t be scared.

Oh heart, don’t run away.

I know it’s familiar,

but please just stay.

No need to be dirty, broken again.

You’re cleaned up,

you’re healing.

I know it still stings —

it will be okay.

Today’s a new day.
