To A Magical Land

Slowly,

Draw in the calming breath.

Will your mind to take hold.

Allow your heart to go free.

~

Quickly,

Take hold of the imposing fears.

Acknowledge their fair warnings.

Place them in the watchtower.

~

But, my dear scared, scarred self,

Set boundaries for them.

Teach them to protect you from harm,

But to welcome that which fortifies you.

~

Yes, once you lowered your guard,

Willingly removed the thick armor,

Lay vulnerable at another’s feet,

Exposed your delicate and fragile organs,

~

To be crushed and squeezed,

Beaten and stepped on,

Disabled and nullified,

Swept away and forgotten.

~

Yet, my fanciful, eternally romantic self,

You continue to peek through,

Grow wings, and strengthen your heart,

Even though it’s never been nurtured.

~

Float away on that exhaling breath,

Open your eyes to the wondrous beauty,

Spread your arms and soar on high,

Ride your dreams to a magical land.

~

Expect the bumps, prepare for the storms.

Be willing to change direction.

Follow the course of your own peace.

Don’t discourage when you must reverse.

~

For one fork will lead you to that place,

The place you know is home,

And you will be welcomed by the one,

The one whose embrace eases all the pain.

~

So, from my self whose hope lives on,

Whose strength is fortified by pure love,

To my self who sometimes cowers and hides,

Allowing the muscles to weaken and disease,

~

Stand up.

Look hope, love, peace in the face.

Accept the gifts being offered you.

Embrace, with thankfulness, the giver.

~

Freely give of yourself.

Humbly acknowledge your worth.

Appreciate the bond created.

And always, always, express your love.
