Mine Stops With You
Sometimes there are things I still want to tell you
but like it was intentional, time wanders on
I stopped and watched the sunset
and dropped my watch. I'm losing time
Every day after you, one after another slips away
in an ending I could have never guessed
Holidays come and go, but I've made no plans
another gathering of well wishers
Celebrating, laughing, planning, moving on
while I am stuck, an immovable anchor
And time, emotionless, carried you away in its current
leaving me standing on the shore, throwing a line
Trying to catch a second chance, another moment
only finding success in catching the judgemental glances
Of those that say, I should have moved on by now
my time frame seems to be out of touch
So, I spend another Saturday night
grocery shopping at midnight
Classical music cascading the vacant isles
streaming the airwaves searching for an audience
Just me and the night security guard
who is more interested in his phone
He doesn't notice me struggling with the register
the paper is out
And it won't make change
I am lost in the isles of Monday
seven days a week
I've lost the energy to talk to people
it's become a job
An inconvenience
it seems my world stopped with you
I rewatch the same movies
so at least I know what is coming
Not like real life
where the unknown lurks behind the corner
Or in the smile of strangers on the subway
if anyone looks
I have become vacant
a billboard with no information
Absent
closed off
Maybe I will tell you about it tonight
when I talk to you in my dreams
And maybe, just maybe
I can stay with you awhile
as the one I used to be
Until the alarm
drags me back
PLEASE...
Promise to remember me
in a place that was meant for people like us
And I will meet you there
when my time comes
